A significant portion of the additional fee paid for personalized license plates are donated to the sponsoring organization, providing them with funding to support their mission. How to Purchase a Personalized Plate?

The process of getting a personalized plate in Florida involves several steps are simplified and able to be completed on this site:

1. Choose Your Plate Type above: Florida offers over 100 specialty plates that support various organizations, causes, and institutions (such as colleges, environmental causes, and veterans). You can personalize a specialty plate or use a standard plate design.
2. Check Availability: Check if your desired configuration is available through the FLHSMV website or by calling and speaking to one of our knowledgeable clerks.
3. Submit Your Information: Submit all the requested information when placing your order. All information must be accurate and up to date.

Rules and Restrictions

• Length: All plates allow anywhere from 5 to 7 characters depending on the plate. Make sure your personalization coincides with the amount of characters allowed on the selected plate.
• Character Types: Personalized plates can use letters, numbers, or a combination of both. No specialty characters of any kind are allowed.
• Content: The message must not be obscene, offensive, or misleading. Florida Law prohibits plates with vulgar language, hate speech, sexual content, or anything deemed inappropriate. Our clerks as well as the DHSMV can reject any personalized plate configuration deemed offensive, obscene, or inappropriate.
• Uniqueness: No duplicates—each plate must be unique across the state.

If your chosen message is rejected, you will receive an email and be asked to choose a different configuration.

LEASE VEHICLE NOTICE: All leased vehicles requesting a specialty plate must submit a copy of the valid lease agreement for the vehicle that the specialty license plate is being attached to. To process a specialty plate request for a leased vehicle please make sure to include a complete copy of the lease when entering your specific vehicle information.
